I have been using MS Word for as long as I can remember. Even in elementary school we had a computer class that taught us how to use all the MS Office tools. I honestly prefer Microsoft; their tools are easy to use and carry across all platforms. Even using a mac, I am able to get access to all the MS tools I need, and FSU offers in for free so why not take advantage.
I feel that all of the ISTE standards are super important in their own ways, but I feel the most important roll is the roll of the learner. Being a learner is being able to adapt, take change head on, and make yourself continually better. I think this is an important characteristic because the world is always changing and with that comes the need to learn so having this role is not only beneficial to the student but to the educator as well. Also being able to relate to the students on some level makes the whole learning process seem more personable and less robotic.
I am definitely a ‘digital native’ I have grown up on all sorts of technology and even had my first touch screen device by the age of ten. I have seen differences between me and ‘native immigrants’ for sure but the differences are slight, however the further back you go with generations the worse they get with technology. I can facetime and text my mother with no issues but when I facetime my grandma, she seems very clueless on which way the camera is facing but this hasn’t changed the way I learn or see others with technology. Since the growing generations have had time with technology I believe there will be a large incorporation with it into the education system and I think it will be a healthy tool for all students to have because technology gives us access to endless resources.
Hi there! I had a very similar experience with Microsoft Word in elementary school. I had a computer class too and (while it was more-so oriented towards teaching us how to type) we learned a great deal about MS Office tools. I feel grateful to have had that experience because I've always felt confident navigating MS, whereas some of my friends don't know as much as me. In regard to being a digital native, I liked how you explained the information gap between us and older generations. I actually laughed at the part where you explained how your grandma doesn't know which way the camera is facing because it reminded me of all the times I've had the exact same experience with my grandma!
